Is success only measured by a woman's corporate achievements? Has a woman failed if she chooses family over her work?

Ambition. Success. These two words, despite their different definitions have assumed a mutually unexclusive meaning. One of these words cannot be said without the other following. From your days as a child, these two words are spoken in your ears and you are constantly reminded to be ambitious as it is the surest bet to becoming successful. Men are expected to be ambitious and successful as it is part of what defines them. For women, ambition and success are something they are encouraged to fight for- and education is seen as their surest bet to achieving them. Women are told to be ‘twice as better’ to get to where and earn the privileges their male colleagues are handed. Although, nobody is born with the traits of ambition and success, most are defined by society or the environment; this reminder, or pressure, means that, a woman who has been offered the same privileges as a man, must not disappoint. What has the Ghanaian society got against unmarried women?

Photo Courtesy: ghanacelebrities.com I will try and make this as short a rant as possible. I am beginning to think Lydia Forson is one of the most misunderstood women in Ghana, and I dare blame it on our patriarchal system that finds everything wrong with a woman who speaks her mind and expresses her thoughts without fear or intimidation.  I have just endured minutes of people calling her out because of her comment on Hamamat Montia’s dress at the recently ended 2016 VGMAs. Depression and The Black Community?

We usually think we’ve got it together until we are faced with a situation that compromises what we have been raised to believe. Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well-being. People with a depressed mood can feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, ashamed or restless. They may lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy may also be present. Depressed mood is a feature of some psychiatric syndromes such as major depressive disorder, but it may also be a normal reaction to life events such as bereavement, a symptom of some bodily ailments or a side effect of some drugs and medical treat...
